چکیده
By EVELYN GAYNOR AND THEODORE H. SPAET T HE SITE OF antihemophihic globulin ( Factor VIII ) synthesis is unknown. Since implication of the reticuloendothelial system ( RES ) has been suggested by several investigators,1’4 and others5’#{176} have suspected a splenic role, the effects of RES blockade on plasma levels of Factor VIII have been studied. Methyl palmitate induces selective depression of the RES, as measured by impaired phagocytic activity and depressed immune response. Unlike other RES-blockading agents, methyl palmitate causes neither liver parenchymal cell damage nor secondary hypertrophy of the RES cell mass. Moreover, its effect is relatively prolonged, causing impairment of colloidal carbon clearance for up to 72 hours after a single injection.7

Possible mechanism of tolerance to ketamine-induced blockade of cortical spreading depression
Ketamine (KET) induced blockade of cortical spreading depression (CSD) declines with repeated KET applications in a way suggesting the development of tolerance. Possible mechanism of this process was studied in 31 rats anestheized with pentobarbital. CSD was elicited by injection of 1µl of 5% KCl into cortex at 15 min intervals and monitored by recording the accompanying slow potential waves....
متن کاملRelationship of Sialic Acid to Function and in Viuo Survival of Human Factor VIIIlvon Willebrand Factor Protein*
Studies of the functional properties and intravascular survival of normal and desialylated human Factor VIIIlvon Willebrand factor protein have been performed. The purified normal protein, possessing both procoagulant activity and ristecetin-induced platelet-aggregating activity, contains 154 = 15 nmol of sialic acid/mg of protein and 28 f 3 mol of Sk&k acid/m01 of 200,000 molecular weight subu...
متن کاملEFFECTS OF NEURONAL BLOCKADE OF NORADRENALINE REUPTAKE IN AN EXPERlMENTAL MODEL OF HEART FAILURE
We investigated neuronal uptake of noradrenaline (NA) at the level of larger vessels (thoracic aorta and vena cava left renal artery and left renal vein lateral saphenous artery and lateral saphenous vein and finally central ear artery and marginal ear vein) in a model devised to mimic heart failure. The model presented here is the rabbit coronary ligation model in which myocardial infarcti...
متن کاملEffect of Endothelin-A Receptor Blockade on the Early Phase of Ischemia/Reperfusion-Induced Acute Renal Failure in Anesthetized Rats
Background: Previous studies have shown increases in endothelin (ET) concentration of plasma and renal tissues in acute renal failure (ARF). ET has a potent vasoconstrictor effect, through binding with its ETA receptors, and may play some roles in renal hemodynamic dysfunction in ARF.Objective: To examine the beneficial effect of a selective ETA-receptor antagonist on renal dysfunction and tis...
متن کاملEffect of thoracic epidural blockade on hypoxia-induced pulmonary arterial hypertension in rats
Objective(s): The present study was aimed to investigate the influence of thoracic epidural blockade on hypoxia-induced pulmonary hypertension in rats. Materials and Methods: Forty eight Wistar rats were randomly divided into 4 equal groups, named normoxia hypoxia hypoxia/ ropivacaine and hypoxia/saline. Animals were placed in a hypoxia chamber and instrumented with epidural catheters at the t...
